PrintBariatric surgery - the best way to solve obesity problems at affordable price in Lithuania
Today, one of the most efficient and advanced ways to treat obesity is bariatric surgery. It is also an excellent solution for people who cannot lose a significant amount of weight with exercise and diet.
Gastric banding is the surgery performed on the stomach and it helps to reduce the patient's food intake. This surgical procedure requires just 1 day of inpatient treatment.
In this procedure, a hollow band made of special material is placed around the stomach near its upper part, creating a small pouch and a narrow passage into the larger lower part of the stomach. The band is then inflated with a solution. It can be tightened or loosened over time to change the size of the passage by increasing or decreasing the amount of solution.
As patients lose weight, their bands will need adjustments, or "fills," to ensure comfort and effectiveness. The gastric band is adjusted by introducing a saline solution into a small access port placed just under the skin. A specialized non-coring needle is used to avoid damage to the port membrane and prevent leakage.

If the surgeon has done a lot of these procedures, your surgery may take around 40-60 minutes.
After such surgery, when you eat, the small pouch will fill up quickly. You will feel full after eating just a small amount of food. The food in the small upper pouch will slowly pass into the main part of your stomach.
Therefore, the weight loss after this surgery is significant and long-term. After the surgery, the band should be adjusted for a few times during the period of 1 - 1.5 year

The average gastric banding patient loses from 500 grams to a kilogram (1-2 pounds) per week consistently, but heavier patients often lose faster in the beginning. This amounts to roughly 22 to 45 kilograms (48 to 99 pounds) in the first year for most band patients. It is important to keep in mind that while most of the gastric bypass patients drop the weight faster in the beginning, some studies have found that gastric banding patients will have the same percentage of excess weight loss and comparable ability to keep it off after 2-3 years. The procedure tends to encourage better eating habits which, in turn, helps in producing long term weight stability.
