Ophthalmology (eye care)

The Ophthalmology centre (Eye clinic) advises on ALL eye and vision conditions. Usually a full eye examination is completed here in a few hours. If surgery is needed, your treatment will be planned in a way that will allow you to go home on the day of the surgery or the next day, if you are not from Vilnius.

The most common diseases and illnesses: cataract, glaucomanearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, strabismus, conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, stye, dry eye syndrome, aged-related macular degeneration (ARMD), retinal tear and detachment.

Treatment. Doctors at the Ophthalmology centre use innovative treatment methods practiced across the globe—laser treatment, vision correction with SmartPulse technology and SmartSurf method, currently the most modern options in Lithuania, intravitreal injections, etc. Our eyes are our window to the world. Take care of your eyes and have a preventative eye exam once a year at an ophthalmologist’s office. Preventative measures and/or an eye or vision condition diagnosed on time will save you from serious vision problems.

Diagnosis can usually be made and treatment prescribed in a day.*

*However, sometimes a final diagnosis might need an examination that takes more than 1 day.

FAQ (frequently asked questions)

Schedule an appointment at an ophthalmologist’s office if:

·         your vision has deteriorated;

·         your current glasses no longer suit you; your eyes tire quickly;

·         you start seeing a spot (spiders or flies floating in your vision);

·         your eyes are sore, itchy, they water, eyelids stick together;

·         your eyes are sensitive to light, wind, or other environmental factors;

·         you had any eye trauma (a punch in the eye, a foreign object in the eye, chemical or other burn);

·         you are nearsighted, farsighted, or astigmatic and want to know if you are eligible for laser eye surgery;

·         you have an eye condition and need to be under a doctor’s supervision;

·         you had an eye doctor appointment more than a year ago—it is recommended that everybody have an eye exam once a year, especially individuals who are over 40 years old, as it is after this age that the vision starts to deteriorate faster.

First, the ophthalmologist will listen to your complaints and perform the necessary eye tests in order to evaluate the state of the eyes. An eye exam usually involves measuring the eye pressure, examining the eyegrounds, determining visual acuity. Based on the individual needs and the state of the eyes, other exams may be carried out.

An appointment with an ophthalmologist normally takes about 30 minutes. If the eye exam is a precondition for a surgery, it takes 1 to 2 hours.

It is important to remember that after the funduscopic exam, your eyes will be sensitive to light. It will also be a little difficult to see and read clearly as your vision will be blurred, and this also means that you will not be able to drive and work on a computer for one to two hours after the exam.
