Impedancemetry (tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing)
Impedancemetry is used to detect middle ear problems in children and adults.
The test allows to suspect and/or diagnose the following diseases:
- secretory otitis;
- adhesive otitis;
- Eustachian tube dysfunction;
- tympanic membrane perforation.
The principle of the method lies in evaluating the resistance of particular structures of the middle ear.
The exam provides information about the functioning of other structures, too—the inner ear, auditory nerve, and brainstem.
The exam is performed at the ENT’s office.
No preparation is required for this examination.
