When are the examinations are carried out:
It is useful to know
Before the procedure, the nasal mucosa is numbed to ensure the client is as comfortable as possible.
A fine soft flexible fiberscope with a camera and light source is inserted through the nasal cavity. If a hard laryngoscope is used, the inspection is carried out through the mouth. The laryngoscope slides down the surface of the tongue up to the back wall of the pharynx and the larynx is examined without the laryngoscope moving below the tongue root.
It is painless, the only thing that might be unpleasant and a little bit irritating is the device (foreign body) itself touching the throat.
Afterwards the scanning results are evaluated and discussed and a more accurate diagnosis given.
No preparation is required for this examination.
