Examinations for sexually transmitted diseases (STD)
Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) are diseases that are transmitted from one person to another one by sexual contact (intercourse) (vaginal, oral, anal). STD can also be transmitted by infected mother to a newborn baby during pregnancy or delivery.
After getting sexually transmitted infection signs or symptoms of the disease can be absent for some time, therefore the infected person may be unaware about the present infection. In some cases signs of the disease can manifest after a week or month or even later after an unsafe sexual intercourse.
If untreated or if inadequately treated sexually transmitted diseases can cause long-term or irreversible health disorders, such as obstruction of fallopian tubes, infertility. Timely diagnosed and successfully treated STD usually resolve without any negative consequences for health.
Sexually transmitted diseases can be diagnosed from penis excretions, scraping from vagina, cervix, mouth, anus, urine and sperm.
