Eye pressure test
The eye pressure test is one of the most common eye tests and is done using a tonometer, a special device that measures eye pressure by puffing a short burst of air into the eye.
Normal eye pressure ranges from 10 to 21 mmHg.
Elevated eye pressure is often the cause of optic nerve damage, deteriorating vision, and the development of glaucoma, a serious eye condition.
Our eye doctors recommend that all individuals 40 years old and over have an eye exam and eye pressure test once a year.
The examination is painless, although some patients may find the sudden burst of air puffed into the eye unpleasant.
The examination is prescribed and carried out by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or specially trained nurse.
The test takes from 1 to 3 minutes. Results are available immediately after the test.
