Funduscopic (eyeground) examination
Funduscopic examination is one of the most informative methods for determining the state of eye blood vessels and the optic nerve and evaluating any changes.
In order to examine the eyegrounds, dilating eye drops are used to enlarge the patient’s pupils. The examination is carried out after 20 to 30 minutes, once the pupils are dilated.
The Centre uses the next generation fundus camera, which enables quick and accurate fundus photography and fluorescein angiography.
Our eye doctors recommend that all individuals 40 years old and over should have an eye exam and funduscopic examination once a year, in order to detect potential changes earlier and start treatment, if needed.
The examination is painless.
It is important to remember that after the exam, your eyes will be sensitive to light and so we advise you to bring your sunglasses. It will also be a little difficult to see and read clearly as your vision will be blurred, and this also means that you will not be able to drive for one to two hours after the exam.
The examination is prescribed and carried out by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or specially trained nurse.
The exam takes about an hour. Results are available immediately after the exam.
