Methylmalonic acid test is performed in order to establish:

  • Causes of megaloblastic anaemia;
  • Early deficiency of Vitamin B-12 and (or) efficiency of treatment.

The test is recommended along with the homocysteine test. High levels of methylmalonic acid and homocysteine are indicators of B-12 deficiency. High homocysteine concentration is indicative of possible folic acid deficiency.
These tests are usually ordered by a family physician, an internal medicine doctor or a haematologist.

You do not need to book a test in advance. You can simply call in at the reception.

The test results will be ready in 14 working days.
