Facelift and necklift

Facelifts and necklifts are usually done in older age when less invasive alternatives do not produce the desired result. A facelift and necklift are an effective way to get rid of loose, sagging, excessive skin resulting from a weight loss or age-related body changes.

The effect of the surgery lasts 10-15 years and depends on the individual characteristics and care. It is important to bear in mind that this surgery does not stop the ageing process.

A facelift is recommended if:

  • facial and neck skin becomes wrinkly and saggy, and creates a double chin effect even on a slim person;
  • the patient wants to reduce forehead wrinkles;
  • the patient wants to remove excess facial fat;
  • the patient wants to sharpen their facial contour.

At our Centre, we can perform several plastic-aesthetic surgeries at the same time to have the maximum effect and save the patient from additional anaesthesia.

  • you are allergic;

  • electrocardiogram (EKG) and its evaluation;
  • blood glucose level test;
  • other tests if you have chronic diseases, as prescribed by your doctor.

The patient can bring their test records from other healthcare institutions, or they may have them done at the Medical Diagnostic and Treatment Centre in 2 hours. Prices of the tests performed at the Centre. The tests must be performed no earlier than 14 days before the surgery.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia.

The surgeon decides where to make the incisions based on the patient’s gender, hairstyle, hairline, and age. During the surgery, deeper layers—hypodermis, ligaments, and muscles—as well as the facial skin are lifted, the cheeks are pulled, the jawline is corrected, and forehead wrinkles are smoothed out.

Separate methods are applied to correct eyeline deformities, sagging jowls and dropped corners of the lips.

Neck skin and muscles are lifted with fixing stitches. Some fat tissue is removed from the neck, if needed. In order to remove the double chin, a short incision is made under the chin.

After the surgery, the head and neck are wrapped with bandages in a specific way.

The patient is cared for by the medical staff at our Centre for 2 days after the surgery. All plastic-aesthetic surgeries cause a slight or more noticeable pain, which may relieved with prescribed painkillers.
Your surgeon will schedule your next appointment after the surgery.
Potential post-operative bruising, haematomas, or swelling are treated with cold compresses for a few days.
The incision area is wrapped with a bandage for a few days after the surgery. Drains may be used to remove excess blood and fluids from under the skin.
Usually the sutures are removed a few days after the surgery (the doctor will inform you about this), and special plaster is then applied onto the area.
Scars after these surgeries are usually minor and hidden in natural folds behind the ears.
The patient can go resume their usual and physically non-demanding activities 3-4 weeks after the surgery (1-2 weeks after a necklift only). Intense physical activity is not recommended before 4-6 weeks. The patient has to wear a special bandage for 1-2 weeks after the surgery.

If you come from abroad, you will discuss all the details (when you can take a flight and what post-operative care is needed) together with your doctor after the surgery.

We cannot issue sick leave certificates after aesthetic surgeries, therefore, we recommend that you schedule a holiday leave in advance, based on your individual needs.

Recommendations for the first week after the surgery:

  • lie with your head slightly raised;
  • do not wet your face;
  • do not do sudden head movements (avoid driving);
  • avoid physical labour, do not do workouts;
  • do not go to the sauna or pool;
  • do not drink alcohol, do not smoke – it may cause serious complications;
  • avoid clothes which you have to put on over your head;
  • protect your face from direct sunlight.
