An eye examination may be preventative, performed prior to surgery or if the patient has an eye disease or vision condition (to evaluate changes and prescribe treatment).

The eye examination usually includes the following main exams:

  • eye pressure test;
  • funduscopic examination.

Prior to cataract surgery, the following exams are performed:

  • corneal topography;
  • eye pressure test;
  • optical coherence tomography (OCT);
  • other tests, if needed.

Prior to laser eye surgery, the following exams are performed:

  • corneal topography;
  • eye pressure test;
  • funduscopic examination through a dilated pupil;
  • refraction evaluation with auto kerato-refractometer;
  • other tests, if needed.

In order to examine the eyegrounds, dilating eye drops are always put in to enlarge the patient’s pupils. The examination is carried out after 20 to 30 minutes, once the pupils are dilated, using the next generation fundus camera.
Our eye doctors recommend that all individuals, especially children, have an eye exam and the main eye tests once a year, in order to detect potential changes earlier and start treatment, if needed.
The examination is painless.
The examination is prescribed and carried out by an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or specially trained nurse.
The exam takes from 1 to 2 hours. Results are available immediately after the exam.

Important note!

It is important to remember that after the funduscopic examination, your eyes will be sensitive to light and so we advise you to bring your sunglasses. It will also be a little difficult to see, read or work on a computer as your vision will be blurred, and this also means that you will not be able to drive for one to two hours after the exam.
